WWL-TV Morning Meteorologist Dave Nussbaum

The humidity is back this morning along with partly cloudy skies and a few stray showers. Temperatures are in the 70s on both sides of the lake.

It will be a hot and humid day as an upper-level wave moves across the region. This wave will set off scattered showers and thunderstorms today once we heat up to around 90. Some of the storms could be strong with heavy rain and gusty winds. The wave will help to set off scattered showers and storms tonight. It will be muggy with lows in the 70s.

The upper-level wave will move east of us on Tuesday, but it will still be close enough to give us a pretty good coverage of scattered showers and storms. Some heavy rain will be possible. High temperatures will be in the upper 80s.

Fewer storms are expected on Wednesday and Thursday and another upper-level wave moves across the Southeast U.S. This wave will be a little father north, so we will not have as much of a coverage of storms. We will see more sunshine, so high temperatures will climb into the lower 90s.

An upper-level and surface ridge of high pressure will move from Bermuda westward to the eastern Gulf of Mexico starting on Friday. This will make it partly cloudy with little to no rain. We will be hot and humid with high temperatures in the lower to mid 90s. It will feel like the upper 90s to 100.

Weekend Forecast: The ridge of high pressure will help to keep us dry, hot and humid all weekend. Only a storm or two will be possible each day. High temperatures will be in the lower to mid 90s. It will feel like the upper 90s to 100.

Tropical Update: No tropical activity is expected across the Atlantic Basin this week.

Mississippi River: The Mississippi river is cresting this week upriver. It is holding just above 61 feet at Red River Landing which is just below the trigger point for opening the Morganza Spillway - so it is not expected to be opened. Later this week, the river should begin slowly falling upriver at Red River Landing and Baton Rouge. Here, it is forecast to remain near steady through at least the end of June around 16.5 feet.
