Tropical Storm Nicholas has officially formed in the Gulf of Mexico. It is expected to hug the Mexican coastline and track towards a Texas landfall. However, a large amount of rain is to the east of the system and could soak areas of south Louisiana that were hard hit by Ida.
We are in the peak of hurricane season and there are several storm systems in the Atlantic that are being watched, along with the system in the Caribbean that is now Nicholas.
Hurricane Ida lashed south Louisiana with winds up to 150 miles per hour, making a federal disaster area out nearly every parish along the south and central Louisiana coast.
