The 2018 hurricane season ended on November 30. It was an active season in the eastern Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean.

Overall there was slightly above average activity this season. It ended with 15 named storms, eight hurricanes and two major hurricanes. The average for a season is 12 named storms, six hurricanes and three major hurricanes. The season was more active than forecasts from NOAA predicted.

The only real threat to southeast Louisiana and coastal Mississippi was Tropical Storm Gordon which made landfall near the Mississippi/Alabama border with 70 mph winds on September 4. There ended up being no major impacts from the storm in our area.
