Hot With Scattered Storms for Memorial Day

A stormy set-up takes shape this week with heavy rain possible Tuesday through Thursday.

NEW ORLEANS — We start a week of some wet weather today. An upper-level low will move into Texas today and it will stay there for much of this week. We will not see a big impact from it today across the New Orleans area. Expect it to be mostly cloudy, breezy, warm and humid with scattered showers and storms. Some downpours will be possible with any storm. High temperatures will be in the upper 80s. Tonight will stay mostly cloudy with lingering spotty showers. Lows will be in the 70s.

We will start to have more of an impact from the Texas upper-level low Tuesday through Thursday across SE Louisiana. Forecast models show bands of storms developing from the Gulf and moving right over us each day. There will be plenty of deep tropical moisture over us, so any storm will produce heavy rain. Rain totals over these days could be around 1-3"+. We will have to watch out for some flash flooding and street flooding issues, so stay weather aware each day.  Daily high temperatures will be in the 80s.

The upper-level low will move into parts of the Arklatex on Friday. This will help to reduce the coverage of storms over us, but we will still have scattered storms during the heating of the day. High temperatures will be in the upper 80s.

Weekend Outlook: The upper-level low will meander over the Arklatex into this weekend, but the models are not in agreement of where it will go. One keeps it over Texas and the other kicks it out to the east. Right now, I'm calling for more scattered showers and storms this weekend, but it will not be a washout. High temperatures will be around 90 each day.
