WWL-TV Meteorologist Alexandra Cranford

Scattered downpours stay in the forecast into Tuesday as an upper level disturbance moves over us and helps spark some storms. The upper disturbance will move away from us on Tuesday which could lead to a drier second half of the day. Still, a chance for scattered rain will be there through afternoon. Most rain wraps up Tuesday evening.

Wednesday and Thursday bring slightly lower rain chances for a few spotty showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the afternoons. With less rain and cloud cover, temperatures will make it to low 90s in the afternoons.

Drier and hotter weather is coming up Friday and this weekend. High pressure from around Bermuda will extend over the Gulf of Mexico, suppressing rain and allowing us to heat up to middle 90s in spots.

No tropical activity is expected in the Atlantic Basin this week.

The Mississippi River crested over the weekend and is now finally falling upriver. The crest at Red River Landing was just below the trigger point for the opening of the Morganza Spillway – so it looks like it will not be opened this year after all. Here in the New Orleans area, the river is forecast to remain high but near steady just below flood stage through the end of June.
