NEW ORLEANS — A line of strong to severe thunderstorms will charge in Wednesday evening with a threat of damaging wind gusts and a few tornadoes.

The severe threat on Wednesday will be highest in our most northern parishes and counties, but severe storms are possible all across our area including New Orleans and coastal spots.

Severe Weather Parish-by-Parish

Here is an early idea of what to expect in your parish or county. Remember the exact timing could still change some.

Orleans & Jefferson

  • Rain timing: Roughly 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday
  • Severe risk: Enhanced (level 3 of 5 – numerous severe storms possible)
  • Threats: Damaging winds of 70+ mph, few tornadoes.
  • Rainfall: 1"+
  • Wind ahead of storms: S 25-30 mph, gusts to 55 mph

St. Tammany

  • Rain timing: Roughly 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday
  • Severe risk: Enhanced (level 4 of 5 – numerous severe storms possible)
  • Threats: Damaging winds of 70+ mph, few strong tornadoes.
  • Rainfall: 1-2"+
  • Wind ahead of storms: S 25-30 mph, gusts to 45 mph

Tangipahoa

  • Rain timing: Roughly 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday
  • Severe risk: Moderate (level 4 of 5 – widespread severe storms likely)
  • Threats: Damaging winds of 70+ mph, few strong tornadoes.
  • Rainfall: 1-2"+
  • Wind ahead of storms: S 25-30 mph, gusts to 45 mph

Washington

  • Rain timing: Roughly 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday
  • Severe risk: Moderate (level 4 of 5 – widespread severe storms likely)
  • Threats: Damaging winds of 70+ mph, few strong tornadoes.
  • Rainfall: 1-2"+
  • Wind ahead of storms: S 25-30 mph, gusts to 40 mph

St. Charles, St. James, St. John

  • Rain timing: Roughly 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday
  • Severe risk: Enhanced (level 3 of 5 – numerous severe storms possible)
  • Threats: Damaging winds of 70+ mph, few tornadoes.
  • Rainfall: 1-2"+
  • Wind ahead of storms: S 25-30 mph, gusts to 50 mph

St. Bernard

  • Rain timing: Roughly 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Wednesday
  • Severe risk: Enhanced (level 3 of 5 – numerous severe storms possible)
  • Threats: Damaging winds of 70+ mph, few tornadoes.
  • Rainfall: 1-2"+
  • Wind: S 25-30 mph, gusts to 55 mph

Upper Plaquemines

  • Rain timing: Roughly 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday
  • Severe risk: Enhanced (level 3 of 5 – numerous severe storms possible)
  • Threats: Damaging winds of 70+ mph, few tornadoes.
  • Rainfall: 1-2"+

Lower Plaquemines, lower Jefferson
