WWL-TV Meteorologist Alexandra Cranford

We get another quiet and mostly cloudy night ahead of storms on Thursday.

The storm system will roll in during the daytime hours Thursday and wrap up before sunset.

It looks like we may get two rounds of rain – the first may arrive by about 8 a.m. and sweep across parts of our area through lunchtime. Another round may ride up from the Gulf by about 2-4 p.m. The system should progress to the east before sunset around 5-7 p.m. (Keep in mind exact timing could change some, but this is how it’s looking right now.)

We will be at a ‘slight’ risk of severe weather, which means a few of the storms could turn strong to severe. The most likely severe element looks like damaging wind gusts, but there will also be a lower risk for some hail and/or an isolated tornado.

Rain could be heavy at times – totals for the day may be 1-2+ inches. Any spots under particularly heavy downpours could get some brief street flooding. If you’re heading to Jazz Fest or the Zurich Classic on Thursday, bring umbrellas, rain ponchos and rain boots, and stay alert in case a strong storm crosses over the Fairgrounds or TPC.

After the rain and cold front push east Thursday night, drier air will filter in. Friday looks quite nice with low humidity, highs near 80 and sun breaking out by afternoon. (You may want to wear rain boots at Jazz Fest as the ground could be muddy.)

Saturday and Sunday still look great with fairly low humidity, slightly cool-ish mornings and sunny afternoons in the low 80s. Evening temperatures will be in the 70s, falling to 60s after sunset.

We get slightly more humid and warmer weather for the first half of next week.
