One in custody, more arrests expected after shots sprayed into post-prom party

The case remains under investigation and more arrests are expected.

Deputies in Terrebonne Parish say one teenager is in custody and more arrests are expected after two people were hurt at a prom after-party Sunday.

Sheriff Jerry Larpenter reports that Johnathon Douglas was booked for illegal use of a firearm and two counts of negligent injuring. He remains in the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex on a $300,000 bond.

The party, held at a house on W. Park Avenue, had a crowd of more than 150 people that overflowed into the empty lot next to it. Around 12:30 a.m. shots were fired at the intersection of W. Park Avenue and Johnson Ridge Lane, striking and hurting two people.

Detectives later said that they did not believe the two victims were the intended targets.

"It's very disturbing to know that kids can't go somewhere and have fun without someone shooting guns into a crowd where we could've had multiple people dead," said Maj. Malcolm Wolfe, Chief of Detectives. "It's very serious and it's a problem."

Officials say one of the victims was a person in their 40s who just happened to be driving by in the area at the time of the shooting. The other, they say, was high school senior, Marquie Mosely, who it's believed was trying to protect his prom date from the shots being fired. He was also shot.

The case remains under investigation and more arrests are expected.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Terrebonne Parish detectives at 985-876-2500. Residents can also report information to Crimestoppers at 1-800-743-7433.
