BATON ROUGE, La. — Authorities say a 3-year-old boy has died from what appears to be an accidental shooting in East Baton Rouge.

Police said Amir Antoine was fatally shot just before noon in a home near Memorial Stadium in Louisiana's capital city.

East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore III said Saturday that he received initial information that indicated it was accidental, The Advocate newspaper reported. Moore said an investigation is continuing.

Authorities did not immediately release further details about the shooting.

A coroner's report will determine the official cause and manner of death, according to officials.

On Saturday afternoon, officers stood outside the home cordoned off by police tape. The newspaper said two women on the steps of the front porch could be seen holding each other and crying in the quiet residential district.
