Gleason: 'I'll be home soon' after spending birthday in hospital

Gleason has been living with ALS for the seven years.

NEW ORLEANS -- Steve Gleason said he'll be home soon after spending his birthday in the hospital.

According to a tweet from a the internationally known ALS advocate, "I've spent the last few days at Ochsner Medical. A precautionary measure, and not where I planned to spend my birthday, but I'll be home soon."

Gleason, the former Saint made famous by his block of a punt in the team's first game in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome after Katrina, has had an equally high-profile battle with ALS. His foundation Team Gleason has raised money for research and equipment.

Gleason has been living with ALS for the seven years. He turned 41 on Monday.
