Two Jefferson Parish krewes cancel parades citing financial issues

Krewe of Caerus captain, Anthony Reddix, Jr., said the parish and float builder worked with the krewe to extend deadlines, but they were still $12,000 short.

JEFFERSON PARISH, La. — The number of krewes that will roll in Jefferson Parish continues to dwindle.

Now, only 11 parades are scheduled on both banks of the parish after a total of four krewes have backed out.

Just this week, two krewes canceled. Both citied financial issues.

The latest is the Krewe of Caerus.

Captain of Caerus, Anthony Reddix, Jr., said Caerus is a family parade that allows kids to ride.

"I think they were the most disappointed of all, but we are working to try to still have them in a parade to where they can still enjoy that experience as a kid," Reddix said.

Reddix said they were looking forward to making their debut in Metairie on Feb. 4.

"We weren't able to meet the deadline of our float builder," Reddix said,  "People who want refunds, we started processing refunds yesterday. And some people want it to roll over so they can ride again next year with their kids."

Reddix said the parish and float builder worked with the krewe to extend deadlines, but they were still $12,000 short.

Earlier this week, the West Bank's Krewe of Culinary Queens and Kings of New Orleans also canceled its Feb. 6 parade.

In a statement on the krewe's Facebook page, it says 'unforeseen circumstances' are the reason the krewe canceled.

“It is currently not financially feasible for the organization to host a parade of the magnitude West Bankers deserve and have come to expect," the statement said.

WWL Louisiana called and asked the krewe to elaborate but was told the captain would need to talk to her attorney before speaking to us. It's unclear if krewe members will be reimbursed or have the option to roll over funds for next year.

Prior to the 2024 Carnival season, two other JP krewes called off their parades.

The Krewe of Little Rascals canceled after the death of its co-founder, but said they'll be back next year.

Meanwhile, the Jefferson Truck Parade announced they are calling it quits after more than 50 years.
