See changes to Metairie parades, Family Gras

The weather has altered the festivities slightly, but everything is still on!

NEW ORLEANS — The morning rain has pushed back this evening's parades in Metairie and led to changes in the final day of Family Gras, officials say.

The parades (Atlas and Kings) have been moved back an hour, with the Krewe of Atlas now starting at 5 p.m. and the Krewe of Kings following at 6 p.m.

The Family Gras schedule has also been affected. Gates will still open at noon but the Ricky Nelson tribute performance has been moved up from 4 p.m. to 3 p.m., the Marshall Tucker Band will perform at 4:30 p.m. and Billy Ray Cyrus will headline at 6 p.m., instead of 8:15 p.m.

That means the festival's performances will now lead the parades rather than wrap up afterwards.

Jefferson Parish officials says the delay is due to weather that has pushed back the set up timeline for the festivities.

In New Orleans, today's three Uptown parades (Femme Fatale, Carrollton and King Arthur) have not been delayed. The Mystic Krewe of Femme Fatale starts things off at 11 a.m.

The Krewe of Carrollton will follow at noon and the Krewe of King Arthur will roll at 1 p.m.

The Mystic Krewe of Barkus in the French Quarter has not announced any delays and is still scheduled for 2 p.m.

Rain is in the area this morning. It will continue with downpours at times until late morning. It should begin to move east of the area between noon and 1 p.m. The rest of the afternoon will be mainly dry with mild temperatures in the mid to upper 60s.

Later this evening into tonight fog will develop across the area leading to low visibility in many areas.

Monday will be warmer with highs in the mid 70s with a few showers and t-storms possible during the afternoon and evening. Tuesday will be even warmer with highs near 80 and few showers possible.

By Wednesday a cold front will approach. Before the front arrives temperatures will be mild in the mid to upper 60s. By the afternoon temperatures will begin to fall and it will turn breezy. This doesn't look like a cold front that will bring t-storms. Thursday will be chilly, breezy and wet with showers in the region.
