NEW ORLEANS — Two riders in the Krewe of Thoth were rushed to the hospital Sunday after falling from floats in two separate incidents, paramedics say.
Sources tell Eyewitness News that neither was wearing a harness when they fell from the floats.
New Orleans EMS posted on Twitter around 3:30 p.m. Sunday that a float rider was taken to University Medical Center from the Uptown parade route after he fell from the lower level of float No.16B near St. Charles and Louisiana avenues.
Hours later, a second rider on float No. 33 fell from the lower level near Poydras Street and St. Charles Avenue.
Sources within the organization tell Eyewitness News that one rider was leaning against the door at the rear of the float when it unexpectedly opened. The other rider was leaning over the side of the float handing out throws when he fell headfirst to the ground.
The riders did not suffer serious injuries, and they were both listed in stable condition. The parade continued to roll.
The incident during the Thoth parade comes one day after a man was struck and killed by a float during the Krewe of Endymion parade. Last week a woman was also killed in a float accident during the Mystic Krewe of Nyx parade.
