13-year-old shot twice while riding as a passenger on I-12 in Hammond, TPSO says

The driver of the SUV stopped before bringing the teenager to North Oaks Medical Center for treatment, the sheriff's office said.

HAMMOND, La. — A 13-year-old was shot two times on I-12 while riding as a passenger, after someone in a passing car shot at the vehicle Friday, according to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said the teenager was riding in an SUV headed to Hammond around 9:21 p.m., when a car drove alongside the SUV, and someone from inside shot at the SUV twice, hitting the 13-year-old in the neck and thigh.

The incident happened near the Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development motorcade scales on I-12 between Pumpkin Center Road and Happywoods Road.

The driver of the SUV stopped before bringing the teenager to North Oaks Medical Center for treatment, the sheriff's office said. The victim's condition is unknown at this time.

Deputies said the make and model of the vehicle is unknown. 

Sheriff Edwards is asking for the public's assistance in identifying the suspect(s) and vehicle.
