18-year-old John Honore guilty in death of Linda Frickey

Three other defendants pleaded guilty last week to attempted manslaughter in exchange for 20-year sentences.

NEW ORLEANS — Linda Frickey’s friends and family will finally have some closure.

“It’s a beautiful thing now that we can start the healing process,” Linda Frickey’s sister, Jinnylynn Griff said.

Originally asking for a 40-year sentence, the defense argued that Honore did not intend to kill Linda Frickey, pointing out multiple times that Honore was a minor at the time of the crime.

“It was insulting,” Linda Frickey’s sister-in-law, Kathy Richard said. “It was stupid kids it was a stupid game. It was no type of idiot kids. He knew what he was doing. He had several opportunities to stop. “

Even the guilty verdict can’t take away the pain felt by Linda’s loved ones.

“I hope where he’s going, he feels the fear that she had in her heart that day,” Richard said. “I hope he feels the pain, and hears his own self screaming for mercy, and it don’t come.”

District Attorney Jason Williams said at the end of the day, it all came down to a choice.

“This family will never be the same,” Williams said. “This jury will never be the same because of the images that will be seared in their minds forever, and every stomp, every kick, every punch, every yard of the two football fields he drove was a choice.”

After hours of deliberations, the jury made their decision, which could mean life in prison for John Honore if given the maximum sentence.

Honore's conviction of second-degree murder comes with a life sentence. His attorney says he could be up for parole in 25 years. Sentencing is set for mid-January.

Three other defendants Lenyra Theophile, Mar’quel Curtis, and Briniyah Baker, pleaded guilty last week to attempted manslaughter in exchange for 20-year sentences.
