Video captures shooting that left 2 dead, 4 wounded in New Orleans

Crimestoppers is offering a $5,000 cash reward for information that can help lead to an arrest.

NEW ORLEANS — Security camera video captures the moment a party in the Lower 9th Ward turned deadly.

The video shows a gunman open fire outside a house party in the 2000 block of St. Maurice Avenue. Ultimately, two 19-year-old's were killed and four more teenagers were wounded in the shooting.

The video shows people apparently leaving the party on Dec. 26 around 12:30 a.m. when the shooter approaches from the bottom-right corner of the screen and starts shooting at a crowd of people standing on the front porch.

Only one shooter can be seen on the video, but dozens of gunshots are fired in multiple directions, implying there may have been another shooter off camera.

Family and friends of the 19-year-olds who were killed in the Lower Ninth Ward have identified them to our partners at the Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate as Kyron Peters and Courtney Hughes.

Four other teens were shot and taken to the hospital.

The shooting happened during a party, in what neighbors believe to be a short-term rental property.

Crimestoppers is offering a $5,000 cash reward for information that can help lead to an arrest.

“I don’t know how as a citizen you can stand silent and not say we have to be one team one mission and one response and the only response is to say stop the violence come forward and help,” Crimestoppers CEO Darlene Cusanza said.

Anyone with information on this shooting is asked to call CRIMESTOPPERS at 504-822-1111.
