Terrytown man identified in Gretna fatal shooting

Detectives are still searching for the gunman, who police believe is the long-term boyfriend and father to two children of the woman the victim was seeing.

GRETNA, La. — Gretna Police have identified the man killed in a fatal shooting after being lured by a woman who he had an off-and-on relationship with.

Officers responding to a call of a shooting on Wednesday found Jhonas Garcia Carbajal, 39, of Terrytown, shot dead in a grassy area of the Boulevard Apartment Homes on Gretna Boulevard.

Through the investigation, police arrested Patricia Lopez Melgar, 25, whom Garcia had an infrequent relationship with for several months according to The Times-Picayune.

She was booked on a principal to second-degree murder charge for allegedly luring Garcia to the apartment where he was shot dead.

Detectives are still searching for the gunman, who police believe is Lopez’s long-term boyfriend and father to her two children. Police have not yet released the suspect's name.

The investigation is ongoing.
