Man shoots intruder in forehead after entering home, Houma police say

HOUMA, La. — A Houma homeowner sprang into action and shot an intruder in the forehead after he found him in his home Tuesday morning, according to the Houma Police Department.

Officers said they were called to a home in the 300 block of Roberta Grove Blvd at 5:15 a.m. When they showed up, the homeowner told officers he had shot an intruder that broke into his home.

The victim said he heard a noise coming from the first floor of his house and went to check it out. As he headed downstairs, he was confronted by the intruder before he fired his gun, and then the suspect ran.

Officers searched the neighborhood for the suspect and found him in the 1200 block of Gibb Street, where they went to arrest the suspect, identified as Dex Herbert, 34. Officers said that when they tried to arrest Herbert, a woman identified as Tye Corbitt, 26, came to the door holding a handgun.

Police said they arrested Corbitt and she told them that Herbert was inside, Officers had trouble locating him and sent in a K9 to find him. 

Houma police said Herbert was found with a shot to the forehead and taken to the hospital for treatment. Officers said his injuries were superficial.

Herbert was charged with one count of simple burglary and an outstanding warrant for Probation Violation.

Tye Corbitt was also charged with simple burglary, obstruction of justice and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
