Teen jogger shot, resident charged in Luling

50-year-old Blaze Gilyot was arrested and charged with "negligent injuring" and violating a parish ordinance.

LULING, La. — A 17-year-old boy jogging on the levee in Luling was accidentally shot by a man who was shooting at targets on the levee from his backyard over the weekend, according to the St. Charles Parish Sheriff's Office.

50-year-old Blaze Gilyot was arrested and charged with "negligent injuring" and violating a parish ordinance that says you cannot shoot a firearm in a residential area, authorities said.

Gilyot was "unaware" the teen was jogging nearby and once he realized he struck him, he rushed to help the boy until EMS arrived, the sheriff's office said.

The teen was airlifted to the hospital and was in "stable condition" on Monday, according to the sheriff's office.

The shooting happened Saturday afternoon near the 500 block of Cypress Street.

Authorities said that Gilyot had since been released from jail on a $5,000 bond.
