Mid-City bank robbed at gunpoint, NOPD says

According to police, the incident occurred around 12:28 p.m., and the man was captured less than 30 minutes later.

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Police Department arrested a man accused of armed robbery at a Hancock-Whitney Bank located at 3311 Canal Street on Friday afternoon.

According to police, the incident occurred around 12:28 p.m.

The male suspect was apprehended at the intersection of Dumaine and North Dupre streets less than 30 minutes later (12:53 p.m.) after NOPD First District officers cordoned off a section in the Bayou St. John-area neighborhood and established a perimeter from Dumaine to North White to St. Ann to North Dupre.

Detectives are also investigating a report of a nearby vehicle having sustained gunfire, which is believed to be related to the bank robbery incident. However, there have been no injuries reported.

The perimeter was lifted shortly after the suspect's capture.
