Man steals pick-up truck, tries to get away and crashes NOPD says

NOPD said when he is released from the hospital he will be booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for carjacking and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

NEW ORLEANS — A man was arrested after he stole a truck and crashed it trying to escape police, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

The carjacking happened around 12:02 p.m. at the intersection of Earhart Boulevard and Hollygrove Street on Wednesday.

Officers said the victim was standing next to his company pick-up truck "when an armed black male forced the victim to give him the vehicle's keys along with his wallet" and drove off.

Later, officers said they saw the pick-up truck at the intersection of Franklin Avenue and Lakeshore Drive and chased him to Mendez Street, where the pick-up truck crashed into a dump truck.

The man was arrested and taken to a nearby hospital. His injuries are unknown at this time.

NOPD said when he is released from the hospital, he will be booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for carjacking and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
