NOPD searching for man who stole police equipment, Crimestoppers offering $4K reward

Police say the suspect cut wires to the surveillance system and took a blue jacket, sweaters, a pair of boots, gloves, and flashlights.

NEW ORLEANS — NOPD Update: No police insignia items or badges taken in A.P.E. burglary.

The New Orleans Police Department is asking for the public's help in identifying and locating a suspect in a burglary of American Police Equipment.

Police say a man broke into the American Police Equipment on Airline Highway Sunday around 12:30 a.m.  He cut wires to the surveillance system and took a blue jacket, sweaters, a pair of boots, gloves, and flashlights.

The suspect may have stolen a ballistic vest and some collectible badges. It is unknown at this point as there was no inventory for the items, according to NOPD.

NOPD says they have temporarily suspended traffic stops conducted by plainclothes detectives citywide. Only marked units with uniformed officers are authorized to conduct a traffic stop.

If anyone has any information on the above subject, please notify Detective Paul Johnson at 504-658-6166, any Third District Detective at 504-658-6030 or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.

Crimestoppers President and C.E.O Darlene Costanza has increased the reward from $2,500  to $4,000.
