Slidell man arrested in Jan. 6 Capitol riots investigation

More than 1,313 individuals have been charged in nearly all 50 states for crimes related to the breach of the U.S. Capitol.

GOLDEN MEADOW, La. — Agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigations arrested Charles Tyler Himber in Golden Meadow, La., Friday on charges related to his conduct during the breach of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

The 30-year-old Slidell native is charged in a criminal complaint filed in the District of Columbia with a felony offense of civil disorder. 

Himber is also charged with several misdemeanor offenses, including:

  • Knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority
  • Disorderly or disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds
  • Disorderly or disruptive conduct in a Capitol building
  • Parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building

The U.S. Department of Justice said Himber made his initial appearance in the Eastern District of Louisiana.

In January, 40-year-old military veteran and Louisiana native Edward Richmond Jr. was arrested on charges that he used a metal baton to assault police officers during the mob's attack on Jan. 6.

Richmond, who was initially released after his Jan. 22 arrest, was ordered jailed by Chief Judge James Boasberg after he was deemed a danger to the community.

In November, Northshore father and son, Willard Purkel, Jr., 51, and Colby Purkel, 27, were also arrested in connection with the breach.

Meanwhile, the Purkels, who are out on bail, were ordered to turn over any passport they may have and to surrender their firearms as a condition of their bond, which was granted in federal court in New Orleans in December.

In the 37 months since Jan. 6, 2021, more than 1,313 individuals have been charged in nearly all 50 states for crimes related to the breach of the U.S. Capitol, including more than 469 individuals charged with assaulting or impeding law enforcement, a felony.
