Victim in Bacchus parade shooting identified as 15-year-old

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office has identified the teenager shot and killed during Bacchus Parade Sunday night.

NEW ORLEANS — The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office has revealed the identity of the teenager shot and killed during Bacchus Parade Sunday night.

15-year-old Roderick Tobias was reportedly killed on the intersection of St. Charles Avenue and Terpsichore Street, just steps away from where paradegoers gathered to watch the Krewe of Bacchus roll down St. Charles.

Four people were injured in the shooting, including a four-year-old girl.

The suspect, Mansour Mbodj, is facing one count of second-degree murder and one count of illegally carrying a gun.

Our partners at The Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate report Magistrate Commissioner Jay Daniels set a bond of one million dollars on the murder count, which is double the amount the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office originally sought.

Daniels set bond for the gun charge at $10,000.

Emily Maw from the District Attorney’s office told NOLA.com Mbodj brought the gun he allegedly used to kill Tobias to the hearing. Investigators found two guns, nine rounds, and several casings at the scene.

We are working to find more information on the victim, Roderick Tobias.
