Ladybug look-alikes are landing in Louisiana

BATON ROUGE -- The invasion of Asian Lady Beetles are on the rise, and even though there is a strong resemblance, they are not 'ladybugs.'

The weather has the Asian Lady Beetle on the move and in many unwanted places like homes, cars and even landing on people.

The lady beetles can be aggressive and they can bite, but entomologists say it's no reason to worry.

"They aren't biting to eat you. They aren't biting to suck your blood," said Chris Carlton, LSU Entomology Dept.

Carlton says the bugs are just trying to see if you're food or not.

"They are doing what I call probing," Carlton said.

Instead of pest control, an easy trick for keeping the beetle out of the house is to spray lemon oil around door frames.
