NEW ORLEANS- There’s an old saying about political scandals: “The fish rots from the head.”

That seems to describe the former head of the Louisiana State Police, Mike Edmondson.

A draft Legislative Auditor’s report portrays Edmondson as a venal public official who took advantage of every possible perk of his office, from living rent-free in a public facility to getting troopers to perform menial tasks on taxpayers’ dime.

Edmondson was already scandalized by a now-infamous Las Vegas road trip taken by some of his subordinates. The preliminary audit accuses him of a cover-up in connection with that boondoggle.

The feds are said to be investigating Edmondson. At a minimum, he has tarnished an agency that deserved much better than his rotten legacy.
