DuBos: Parts of New Orleans should be exempt from new conceal carry law

WWL political analyst Clancy DuBos says Louisiana's new concealed carry law could make recent shootings more commonplace.

We can't blame the recent murders of Darriel King and Jezreel Poleate on Louisiana's new concealed carry law, which takes effect on July 4th.

But we can say this much: The new law won't make us safer. If anything, it will put more untrained shooters on the street, and it will take away cops' best reason to stop and search potential shooters.

That's why many are asking state lawmakers to create an exemption in the new law for the city's hospitality and entertainment districts.

Such an exemption won't protect everyone in New Orleans, but it would make the city's busiest areas safer.

Governor Jeff Landry and many lawmakers take the opposite approach. How many killings will it take to convince them they're wrong?
