Boil water advisory fully lifted Uptown

Water samples from across the impacted Uptown area have tested negative for contamination, S&WB officials say

NEW ORLEANS — The Sewerage and Water Board announced Sunday afternoon that the precautionary water boil in affect Uptown was completely canceled for all homes and businesses, including those that remained under advisory past Saturday.

Almost all customers under the advisory were cleared Saturday afternoon.

24 properties that have their water lines directly tied to the 114-year-old, 30-inch pipe that burst early Friday morning remained under advisory until Sunday afternoon, so additional water quality tests could be conducted, S&WB officials said.

Now that the Louisiana Department of Health has tested the water and deemed it safe following the burst for most customers, S&WB officials say those who did not use water during the advisory should flush their plumbing by running water through the house for several minutes.

The advisory affected a large portion of Uptown, from S. Claiborne to the Mississippi river and from S. Carrollton to Napoleon Avenue.
