Faithful flock to St. Louis Cathedral for the Spirit of Christmas

For many, Christmas has evolved into a season of giving, gifting and gathering with loved ones. But some are leaning into their faith for the reason behind it all.

NEW ORLEANS — For some, the big golden bows and Christmas trees signal something more at the St. Louis Cathedral.

"The birthday of all birthdays," said Vincent Lockett. "The birthday of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ."

Hundreds flock annually to the 200-year-old place of worship for Christmas Mass.

"It's been so wonderful to see the masses come out for all of the mass we've had this season," Lockett reflected.

Each made sure to take time and honor the holy day.

"I just don't want to lose sight of what Christmas is about," said New Orleans visitor Kelli Schaller, who is visiting New Orleans with her husband, Eric. "You can really, easily, lose him in this. So, it's just very important to me – to us,"

As they sit and reflect on some of their Christmas wishes.

"That my family is all healthy, our children, grandchildren, our health," expressed fellow visitor Debra Donze.

"I would like a new kicker for the Jacksonville Jaguars," said Kelli Schaller, a day after her home team lost its fourth game in a row.

"Seconded," Eric Schaller added.

In the hearts of faithful everywhere, is a prayer that outlasts the golden bows and mistletoes.

"Love and peace toward all men," Lockett said.

"Peace," another churchgoer reiterated. "Peace, we need it."
