NEW ORLEANS — Kids can play, run, and jump in the mud at the Louisiana Children's Museum's annual Mud Fest at City Park.

Families are invited to enjoy a variety of muddy mischief activities on Saturday, April 6, rain or shine. The festival's centerpiece is a giant pile of mud, highlighting the "blend of earth and water", something that surrounds the city.

“There’s infinite potential for discovery and learning right in our own backyards,” said Shannon Blady, LCM’s Chief Learning Officer. “Mud Fest at LCM will inspire kids of all ages to go outside, get dirty, and explore, and we know that immersive play in nature as children encourages a love of nature and stewardship later as adults.”

Mud Fest aims to "encourage positive associations with the realities of our region while building resilience and critical thinking skills for the next generation of engineers, educators, urban planners, fishermen, farmers and conservationists," organizers said.

Activities at the festival include:

  • Café du Mud: LCM’s take on the classic mudpie. This station features supplies to make and decorate mud cakes, cookies and beverages!
  • Studio in the Mud: We take process art outside with mud as the medium. Guests can create on repurposed materials like cardboard boxes and scrap paper...or they can use themselves as the canvas!
  • Tot Spot: A station especially for little ones from birth to three years, the Tot Spot features age-appropriate, sensory-rich experiences for our youngest audience.
  • And new this year is our Mudder Run where kids can run, jump, bounce and crawl through our muddy obstacle course.
  • The Kid Wash: After all the messy fun, you’ll need a place to clean up! We’ve got you covered with sprinklers, pools and bubbles as you leave the fest!

Mud Fest is set for Saturday, Apr. 6 from 10:00 a.m. until 4 p.m.

LCM members event tickets are $12 per person and non-members event tickets are $22 per person. Museums for All tickets will also be available for $8. All tickets include admission to the Museum. Tickets go on sale Friday, March 8 at 9:00 a.m. Reserved tickets are required for all guests including LCM members and can be reserved at lcm.org.
