Inauguration of Gov.-elect Jeff Landry rescheduled due to weather

The inauguration ceremony is set for Sunday, Jan. 7 at 4:30 p.m. on the steps of Louisiana's State Capitol.

BATON ROUGE, La. — The inauguration ceremony for Gov.-elect Jeff Landry has been moved up one day due to inclement weather forecasted for Monday.

The 57th Governor will be sworn in on Sunday afternoon. Crews have been working for weeks, setting the stage for Gov. -elect Jeff Landry's inauguration initially scheduled for Jan. 8.

Our reporter Alyssa Curtis spoke to the event organizer, Bud Courson, who said Landry's inauguration will include one of a kind elements compared to previous inaugurations.

"You will have some beautiful music involved, a lot of instrumental stuff. It’ll start with a parade of the statewide elected officials," Courson said. "[Landry and the Lieutenant Governor] will come out being introduced separately so you get a chance to see the individuals you voted for and their spouses. They will take a seat in this area down in this platform area then we’ll go from there to swearing in. It’s a really exciting time for them and their families," he told Curtis.

Over 9,000 American flags will be hung and "there will be things never done before like live drone footage," he said.

Thousands are expected to watch the ceremony on the lawn, our partners at WBRZ reported.

The ceremony is supposed to be held outside on the capitol steps, with attendees cascading into the grounds, but it might rain as the forecast is showing some bad weather. Courson said they're keeping an eye on the forecast but hope to continue with an outdoor ceremony.

"Of course there are things that are being looked at in terms of [the weather] element but we’re going right ahead as planned with everything we’ve been looking at and of course if there are any changes we’ll be letting people know the details," Courson said.

Landry will be joined with other state officials to be sworn in.
