The Breakdown: What’s on Saturday’s primary election ballot?

In your Breakdown, we’re helping you plan your trip to the voting booth Saturday.

NEW ORLEANS — It’s Louisiana’s presidential and municipal primary and, as the race for presidential nominees is mostly decided, the local races are the headline.

Registered democrats will vote for new members of the Democratic State Central Committee. They will see it abbreviated on their ballot as DSCC. The 210-member DSCC runs the party at the state level. Democrats will also choose members of the Democratic Parish Executive Committees – abbreviated as DPEC. They operate under the committee at the local level.

The same goes for registered Republicans. When they see RSCC, they’ll be electing members of the Republican State Central Committee, which runs the party at the state level.

St. Tammany and Washington Parishes will place votes in a contentious district attorney race and choose a new district court judge. Jefferson Parish will choose a Division D judge.

Mandeville, Ponchatoula, Madisonville, and Grand Isle will all choose candidates for mayor, and some will choose council seats.

To find out what’s specifically on your ballot, you can enter the Geaux Vote portal on the Secretary of State’s website

When it comes to getting to the voting booth, polls open at 7-am and close at 8-pm statewide. You should bring some form of photo ID.

RTA is offering free bus, ferry, and streetcar rides to go vote.
