Watch: ESPN crew butchers King Cake on live TV

It was the carnival season faux pas seen across the internet. During an LSU game against South Carolina, ESPN anchors tore apart a king cake searching for the baby.

BATON ROUGE, La. — Before a close LSU loss to South Carolina Thursday night, ESPN anchors added insult to injury by tearing a king cake to shreds.

The king cake massacre unfolded at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center during ESPN College Gameday, the sports network's pregame coverage. And New Orleanians were quick to react with their shock and awe.

The anchors were screaming "Where is the baby?" while they carved into the king cake referring to the small baby figurine typically baked into the traditional Carnival season dessert.

The King Cake Baby was understandably not happy about the incident, tweeting: "I will never forgive College Gameday for what they did to that king cake!"

Even the owner of Bruno Bread Company, who made the cake, couldn't believe it.

"When your king cake gets destroyed on national television," the bakery's owner posted on social media. Alongside a video of him flailing his arms in disbelief.

The WWL Louisiana morning team had some fun with the video, too. Brheanna Boudreaux used her platform to educate the non-Louisianan public on some king cake etiquette.

"You take your slice like a normal human being, you eat it and move on!" Boudreaux cried out.
