Blood drive to benefit St. Tammany deputy wounded on Easter

The blood drive will happen Thursday, April 5 from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the 26th Avenue entrance of the St. Tammany Parish Justice Center in Covington.

COVINGTON, La. – The Blood Center will be hosting a blood drive to benefit the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s deputy that was wounded in a shooting on Easter Sunday.

Deputy Justin Nail, a 10-year veteran of the force, was wounded in a shootout following a police chase that ended in Goodbee, Louisiana. Nail was transferred off the ICU Monday and remains in the hospital in stable condition.

Although Nail has not needed blood, the sheriff’s office says The Blood Center has opened an account in his name and will issue $10 credits for donations received at blood drives. Donors should specify “Replacement donation on behalf of Justin Nail” when giving blood.

The blood drive will happen Thursday, April 5 from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the 26th Avenue entrance of the St. Tammany Parish Justice Center in Covington. Donations can be made any time at The Blood Center’s Slidell donor center or any other nine blood center locations.

The Blood Center says donors do not need a specific blood type to donate blood.
