PONCHATOULA, La. — The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office responded to three separate altercations at Ponchatoula High School prior to 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning.

According to TPSO, the first fight involved six female students which started at the school before 8 a.m. and then continued at a nearby gas station after their parents removed them from campus. Deputies rolled up on the scene that involved both students and parents involved in the altercation.

A second incident involved a male student striking a teacher. That student was taken into custody and transported to the Florida Parish Juvenile Detention Center. His sister, who was also involved, was issued a juvenile citation and then released.

The third incident allegedly involved two students ganging up on another. However, TPSO said PHS faculty quickly responded to control the situation.

Sheriff Daniel Edwards said interviewing the individuals involved and reviewing of school security cameras is still in progress.

Additional charges could be issued as more information becomes available.
