SUN, La. — Authorities have launched an investigation after human remains were found in a St. Tammany Parish field near Washington Parish on Thursday.

According to Washington Parish Sheriff's Office, an individual searching for arrowheads in a field near Chadell Road near Sun, La., discovered what he believed to be human bones. Deputies were called to the scene, and detectives determined that the bones were likely human remains.

The sheriff's office said remains were turned over to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab and LSU Forensic Anthropology and Computer Enhancement Services (FACES) laboratory.

The WPSO said it was determined the bones were located in St. Tammany Parish and the investigation was turned over to the St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office.

The sheriff's office is asking anyone who knows of a man who had been unaccounted for during the past few months should contact Detective Captain Raymond Meyers at (985) 661-2024.

There are still many unanswered questions concerning this death,” said Sheriff Randy Seal. "The person could have been local, but it is possible he was from a nearby parish or Mississippi county."

The WPSO said that the St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office will work alongside FACES to attempt to identify the remains.
