Strong storms sweep across Northshore, leaves fallen trees in wake

Viewers submit photos of storm damage from Friday afternoon.

KENTWOOD, La. — Notice: Please text images or videos of storm-related weather or damage to (504) 529-4444 (if you can safely do so) for possible use on both WWL Louisiana broadcast and digital platforms.

Tall pines were no match for strong storms that swept across Kentwood on Friday.

Viewer-submitted photos from Roshonda Burton show trees strewn across Interstate 55, and Louisiana State Police trying to clear the roads of debris.

Across the Northshore, the Slidell Police Department posted photos of downed trees and power lines in the area with a warning for motorists on the roadway.

Also Friday, the National Weather Service confirmed a tornado moving east at 25 mph near Pearlington, approximately nine miles southwest of Waveland, Miss.

A St. Tammany Parish native described the twister to WWL Louisiana.

"I couldn't even hear myself thinking," explained Jeffery Crossland, who described the waterspout as more than 300 feet wide. "Sounded like the train was right next to the truck. Then between that, the wind shear, and the rain here, it was pretty amazing."
