16-year-old reported missing after leaving for school from Algiers home

The teen's family told police she went to school on Wednesday morning but didn't come home and hasn't been heard from since.

NEW ORLEANS — Police are asking for the public's help to find a teenager reported missing after she didn't come home from school Wednesday. 

According to New Orleans Police Department officials, 16-year-old Rialiyah Gilbert was last seen by her family leaving her Algiers home around 6 a.m. Wednesday, March 4 to get on the school bus. 

School faculty says she attended school. However, her family says she didn't come home Wednesday and hasn't been heard from or seen since. 

Neither a description of Gilbert's possible whereabouts nor her description were immediately available from police. Her home, where she was last seen by family, is in the 3900 block of Kathleen Street in Algiers. 

No further information was immediately available. 

Police officials ask that anyone with information on Gilbert's whereabouts call NOPD detectives at 504-658-6040.
