New Orleans police officer hospitalized after foot chase

The officer stopped two people in the 4900 block of Chef Menteur Highway after suspecting the presence of illegal drugs.

NEW ORLEANS — A New Orleans police officer has taken to the hospital after chasing a suspect following a traffic stop Thursday morning.

According to the New Orleans Police Department, the officer stopped two people in the 4900 block of Chef Menteur Highway after suspecting the presence of illegal drugs.

Police say one suspect tried to run away and the officer chased him on foot, cutting his arm on a guardrail in the process. The officer was taken to the hospital for treatment. The police department did not say how serious the officer's injuries were.

The NOPD said the other suspect stayed at the scene. The person who ran away was arrested by another officer.
