JEFFERSON PARISH, La. — A boil water advisory is still in effect for parts of Jefferson Parish, after water main repairs, according to a social media post on Wednesday.

Officials are warning people who live in Crown Point, the Town of Jean Lefitte and Barataria to take precautions when using or drinking local tap water.

"Boil the water for a one full minute in a clean container. The one minute starts after the water has been brought to a rolling boil,"  Jefferson Parish officials said. "The flat taste can be eliminated by shaking the water in a bottle or pouring it from one container to another.

J.P. also gave residents a second method of purifying water.

"Disinfect the water by mixing 1/8 teaspoon of unscented, liquid chlorine laundry bleach with one gallon of water and letting it stand for at least 30 minutes prior to consumption. Mix it thoroughly," Officials said.

Parish officials first released the advisory on Tuesday morning, adding that the distribution system lost pressure during a water main repair on Lafitte-Larose Highway.

The next day J.P. tweeted an image of repair workers inspecting the three foot main on the highway.

People in the parish who need more information have been encouraged to contact the Jefferson Parish Water Quality Laboratory at 504-838-4305 or the West Bank Water Treatment Plant at 504-349-5080.

The Jefferson Parish Water Department and the Louisiana Department of Health make final determinations on when the advisory can be ended.
