Cormier, Lepine heading to runoff in Plaquemines Parish President race

Lepine led Tuesday's election with 48 percent of the vote, Amos Cormier carried 27 percent. Democrat Burghart Turner, a for parish councilman running for the third time, got 24 percent of the vote.

PLAQUEMINES PARISH -- There will be a runoff for Plaquemines Parish President.

Councilman Kirk Lepine and interim Parish President Amos Cormier III will go head to head for the position. Cormier beat Lepine in a special election two years ago after Cormier’s father died while in office.

Lepine led Tuesday’s election with 48 percent of the vote, Amos Cormier carried 27 percent. Democrat Burghart Turner, a for parish councilman running for the third time, got 24 percent of the vote.
