Several incumbents keep key local offices in 2023 primary election

Local voters in the New Orleans area made their voice heard in several key races in Orleans and surrounding parishes.

NEW ORLEANS — Aside from Jeff Landry winning the Louisiana governor's race with a majority vote in the gubernatorial primary on Saturday, local voters in the New Orleans area made their voice heard in several key races in Orleans and surrounding parishes.

In Jefferson Parish, Jennifer Van Vrancken defeated incumbent and fellow Republican Ricky Templet for the Council at Large Division A seat with 51 percent of the vote, while incumbent Scott Walker soundly defeated fellow Republican Dominick Impastato by 61 percent to keep his Council at Large Division B seat.

   

Two major races in St. Tammay Parish were decided including both president and sheriff.

Incumbent Mike Cooper was re-elected as Parish President after narrowly defeating standing Slidell Mayor Greg Cromer with 51.43 percent of the vote (33,594) compared to Cromer's 48.57 (31,731).

Meanwhile, incumbent Randy Smith captured 62 percent of the vote over fellow Republican Tommy Williams.

   And in St. John Parish, Sheriff Mike Tregre was re-elected with an overwhelming win over fellow Democrat Jarret Vicknair by capturing 71 percent of the vote.
