ST. BERNARD PARISH, La. — Four brave St. Bernard Parish firefighters rescued four dogs from a structure fire.

On Tuesday, firefighters with the St. Bernard Parish Fire Department responded to a residence on fire at the intersection of E. St. Bernard Highway and Ree Road.

No one was hurt in the fire, however, firefighters had to rescue the four small pups trapped inside the burning multi-family home.

“All four were given oxygen, three regained consciousness on the scene, and the fourth was taken to St. Bernard Veterinary Hospital, for further treatment and recovered!” said the fire department in a social media post of the firefighters posing with the pups.

“Thank you SBFT and thank you St. Bernard Vet. It takes compassion to do what y’all have done and I couldn’t be prouder of y’all. Our babies mean so much to us and to have them rescued while the owner isn’t even home to do it themselves was amazing,” Gini LaFrance Stiebing said in the post’s comments.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
