TSA to accept digital IDs, Louisiana Wallet at New Orleans International Airport

Louisiana is the eighth state to offer digital IDs with TSA scanner interoperability.

NEW ORLEANS — Louisiana travelers with the LA Wallet app can now use their valid digital ID or mobile driver's license for proof of identity at TSA security checkpoints at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International and 26 other airports around the nation.

The use of digital IDs during the screening process will eliminate the need for a physical photo ID when entering a TSA checkpoint.

The announcement was made on Thursday by Mayor LaToya Cantrell, who was also joined by Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry.

"We are unveiling technology that is the 8th airport in the United States of America with leadership assembled that has made it happen," Cantrell proclaimed. "So with that, we're going to go up the escalator and we're going to meet our agents at TSA and we're going to deliver real results for the state of Louisiana and the city of New Orleans."

The New Orleans Airport (MSY) will be one of 27 airports with CAT-2 units required to accept digital IDs. Louisiana is the eighth state to offer digital IDs with TSA scanner interoperability. Other states include Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Maryland and Utah.

Despite the new digital option, the Office of Motor Vehicles advises travelers to still bring their physical ID to the airport in case the digital ID cannot be verified at TSA.
