LOS ANGELES — A film production designer based out of the Crescent City took home a historic Oscar on Sunday night.
Hannah Beachler, an Ohio-native based out of New Orleans, is the first African-American be nominated for the "Best Production Design" award, according to Wikipedia.
At Sunday's 91st annual Academy Awards in Los Angeles, she became the first to win the honor as well.
Beachler gave an emotional speech on stage, thanking her co-workers, friends and family for their support to "breathe life" into her design of the smash hit Marvel film "Black Panther."
The first thing she did on stage was shout out the Big Easy. "New Orleans, Ya Heard," she said into the microphone.

Production designers are responsible for the visual concept of a film, as well as interior design and other aspects that define what a movie looks like.
Another New Orleans-based creator is at the award ceremony tonight. St. Augustine High School alumnus Terence Blanchard is up for "Best Original Score" for his work on the film "BlacKkKlansman."
