Gov. Landry signs executive order removing job requirement from industrial tax exemption program

The Baton Rouge business luncheon is presented by the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry.

BATON ROUGE, La. — Governor Jeff Landry(R) joined Commissioner of Insurance Tim Temple (R) at the Louisiana Association of Business and Industry at the Baton Rouge Crown Plaza.

During the keynote address, Gov. Landry signed an executive order on the conditions for participation in the state's industrial tax exemption program.

"I want you to know that what I am about to do in front of you all is a complete collection of both industry and business stakeholders and local government working together over the last few months from the transition through the inauguration and should signify how we are going to start streamlining things," Landry proclaimed.

"So in my hand, here is a new executive order on the conditions for participation in the industrial tax exemption program."

According to Landry, there is still going to be an 80/20 split, but he will remove the job requirement stipulation because the industrial tax exemption program is about capital investment, not jobs.

"It is not about job creating," the governor explained. "It is about capital investment. And then the way it's going to work is that no longer or the application is going to go to multiple local agencies.

"They won't go to the local industrial commission who will have 45 days to take the application and pass it on to the state industrial board," Landry continued. "And if any, if there is a difference of opinion between the local industrial board and the state industrial board, the governor will make the decision."
