Here's what the Pelicans need to do to make the playoffs after loss to Lakers

The Pelicans are back in the Play-In Tournament after their loss to the Lakers.

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Pelicans are back in the NBA's Play-In Tournament for the third straight season

Nothing went right for the Pels on Sunday. They lost to the Los Angeles Lakers 124-108, and the Phoenix Suns beat the Timberwolves 125-106.

So the Suns clinched the 6th seed in the Western Conference, and the Pelicans are the 7th seed.

Here is how the play-in tournament works:

7th seed plays the 8th seed, and the 9th seed plays the 10th seed. The winner of the 7-8 game gets the 7th seed, while the loser plays the winner of the 9-10 game for the 8th seed.

The Pelicans will host the Los Angeles Lakers for the 7th seed. If the Pelicans win that game, they will clinch the 7th seed, but if they lose, they will host the winner of the Sacramento Kings/Golden State Warriors for the 8th seed.

The Play-In Tournament is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, April 16, and end on Friday, April 19.

Pelicans vs Lakers is scheduled to tip off on Tuesday at 6:30 pm C.T.
