Bill Belichick's future with Patriots has been decided, insider says

Belichick, 71, has been a coach in the NFL for 49 seasons.

BOSTON — Speculation has been swirling about the future of the New England Patriots' longtime head coach.

Will this be Bill Belichick's final season as coach of the New England Patriots? A true Patriot insider has weighed in.

Tom Curran of NBC Sports Boston said Monday that a "decision was made" when it comes to the future Hall of Famer.

Curran, who has covered the team for decades, said the decision was reached after the team lost 10-6 to the Indianapolis Colts during a Nov. 12 game in Germany that 71-year-old Belichick and the Patriots would part ways for a variety of reasons.

This is his 24th season as head coach of the Patriots.

Curran also noted that conversations he had the week coming out of the Nov. 12 game gave the impression the Patriots would play out the remainder of the season with Belichick before a "parting of the ways."

Belichick apparently deflected multiple questions Wednesday about his future with the Pats, according to reports from the Associated Press, instead saying he was focused on the upcoming game Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Belichick has been a coach in the NFL for 49 seasons. According to Belichick's bio on the Patriots website, the only other NFL coach with at least 40 consecutive NFL coaching seasons is Tom Moore, who coached 41 years. Belichick is also the only head coach in NFL history to win six Super Bowl titles.

No official word on Belichick has been shared by the Patriots.
