Brees on future: 'no doubt' Saints are poised for success

Drew Brees is ready to lead a talented young team into the playoffs.

METAIRIE -- There was never any doubt. Drew Brees knew he’d be back with the Saints next season.

The Saints’ star QB agreed to a 2-year, $50 million dollar deal to stay in New Orleans Tuesday after Saints’ fans began to worry that something had gone wrong in the negotiations.

“I have made it known from the very beginning that I wasn’t going anywhere else and it was just a matter of us getting together, getting a deal done and continuing things,” Brees said.

Especially with the way his team played last year.

Brees admitted that he’d been through some rough years in New Orleans, but said this team is ready to make a run at the Super Bowl.

“There was no doubt in my mind that we would have success this year,” he said. “I think we did a great job of finding the type of free agents that match what we’re looking for in character, toughness and intelligence and I felt like obviously we were able to hit on those draft picks at least in year one.”

He wasn’t the only deal that got done Tuesday. While Brees admitted he doesn’t pay much attention to what other teams are doing one name caught his eye: Jimmy Graham.

“Obviously I would have loved to have him back,” Brees said of his former favorite target. “We have a great relationship both on and off the field, obviously there is a lot of chemistry there that would have fit in very, very nicely with what we are doing, but you also understand it’s the nature of the beast. Sometimes that stuff doesn’t end up coming together.”
