Saints start Girls High School Flag Football league

There will be weekly games leading up to a championship final set for May 4 at Joe Brown Park.

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Saints launched its own Saints Girls High School Flag Football league, and the season kicked off Wednesday. Saints said the goal of the program is to have the Louisiana High School Athletic Association officially recognize Girls Flag Football as a sanctioned sport.

Its inaugural season is to promote inclusivity and diversity in athletics and pave the way for future generations of female athletes, according to the Saints.

The pilot season includes participation from 10 schools across Orleans and Jefferson Parishes including:

  • Academy of Our Lady High School
  • Alfred Bonnabel Magnet Academy High School
  • De La Salle High School
  • East Jefferson High School
  • Lycée Français de la Nouvelle-Orléans
  • McDonogh 35 College Preparatory High School
  • Sarah T. Reed Senior High School
  • Sophie B. Wright High School
  • The Willow School
  • West Jefferson High School

The season started with East Jefferson and Willow School playing at the Brees Family Field on Wednesday.

Thursday, there were two games at West Jefferson High School. In game one, it was Sarah T. Reed vs. Academy of Our Lady and in game two it was  Lycée Français vs. West Jefferson.

There will be weekly games, leading up to a Championship Gameday set for May 4 at Joe Brown Park.
